Project Overview

Watertight Boatworks was engaged by Seaspan to support the refurbishment and repainting of three commercial rescue vessels from the RV Sonne, a modern German deep-ocean research vessel. Whilst Seaspan conducted repairs and maintenance on the RV Sonne, the rescue vessels, comprising of two 30-foot enclosed rescue boats and one 22-foot fast rescue boat (FRB), were subcontracted to Watertight Boatworks for repair. The project involved extensive surface preparation, fiberglass repairs, multi-layer marine coating applications and the removal and reinstatement of exterior fittings and safety markings. The project was completed within our covered marine workshop at Lions Gate Marina in North Vancouver.

The work required careful preparation, attention to detail and coordination between multiple parties to deliver a high-quality finish in accordance with the specified coating procedures, and within the tight schedule.

Project Highlights

Three Commercial Rescue Vessels

The Finished Result

The project delivered a significant visual transformation, restoring the vessels exterior appearance with a renewed high-gloss orange coating. From the initial surface preparation and fiberglass repairs through to the final finishing and reinstatement of exterior components, the refurbishment demonstrates Watertight Boatworks’ ability to support complex commercial marine maintenance projects, within a tight schedule.
